to me it sounded like something from the shift-work era. the ranting vocals, the mechanical but somewhat loose sound, the loud organ, the repetition, etc.

Yeah, I came here specifically to see if anyone had mentioned the soundtrack. Love The Stranglers song - perfect fit for the opening scenes of Gal by the pool. The surupy stringy Mancini piece was a nice touch for gangsters living the high-life in Spain. Daddy Rollin' Stone is an under-used 50's rock n roll song that added some spice. Then closing with the Dean Martin latin beat Sway. Ecletic is the right word.
