Questions (spoilers)

(1) Why is Don Logan so bent on having Gal do the job? Logan says it's not a particularly difficult job, so why go all the way to Spain to try and force somebody to do the job?

(2) Don Logan is a complete *beep* Why does Gal simply let him do this *beep* Logan punches Gal in the solar plexus. I mean, Logan's certainly not physically or mentally intimidating? I don't get it? Why not just beat the crap out of Logan, or better yet, kill him?

1. Don's primary motivation is to see Jackie ("I quite liked her"). Using the heist as cover allows him to hide his true feelings. He rebukes himself (in the mirror, while shaving) for what he shares with Gal at the bar. Only at the point of dying is able to tell Jackie that he loves her. Also, Gal has found happiness with Deedee. He has escaped the criminal life for marital bliss in Spain. Don is jealous of Gal's happiness, reacting in childish fashion: "I won't let you be happy. Why should I?"

2. Gal knows how dangerous Don is. The restaurant scene shows that all four are concerned by Don's imminent arrival. He clearly has earned a reputation for violence. Further, he works for Teddy Bass. Teddy is even more dangerous than Don. To kill Teddy's "employee" is to risk swift, violent retribution. Gal is concerned for the safety of Deedee, Aitch and Jackie. He knows that killing Don won't be the end of the danger. He is right. Once Don is dead Gal must take part in the heist. He lies to Teddy who eventually surmises that Don was killed in Spain. Teddy could have killed Gal, but chose instead to keep his share from the heist. Happily, Gal returns to Spain. He gives Deedee the very valuable earrings he pocketed in the vault. She looks marvelous. Dean Martin beings to sing "Sway," and the exceptional film, Sexy Beast, comes to a satisfying conclusion.

Thanks. That's a good, coherent explanation.
