Kingsley robbed of an Oscar

He deserved an Oscar for this role...hands down. He kicked serious ass...can you believe that was Ghandi???

reply

Great performance! I can't believe he didn't won the Oscar...

reply

He didn't deserve an Oscar. His performance is overrated. He's not as talented as winstone who gives the better performance.

reply

Overrated? Lol...he didn't get any acclaim, it was Oscar worthy , but takes talent to recognize talent.

reply

You do know the Oscars are voted on by the other actors, right? So you're implying that either none of them has talent and only Kingsley does, or that he didn't deserve to win.

reply

Unlucky not to win IMO. Jim Broadbent is a good actor too, but this is a memorable performance by Kingsley.🐭

reply

Jim Broadbent trumped him with his heartbreaking performance in Iris.

reply

His Don Logan is surely one of the most memorable screen psychos since Joe Pesci in Goodfellas. They're rather alike, too, in how they're frightening, funny, and ultimately pathetic all at once.

But, nevertheless, I would say Jim Broadbent (the winner that year, for his portrayal of Iris Murdoch's husband in Iris) gave an equally good performance, and so choosing between them would have been tough for me because the performances are as different as can be. However,Broadbent's work seems rather underappreciated these days (one notices many Lord of the Rings fans bemoaning that Ian McKellen didn't win) and he's one of the greatest character actors working so I'm not at all displeased with the result.

reply

I just thought it was quite amazing that Ben could play a tough guy...who knew?? And the character was like none other, I can't think of anyone who had that personality combined w being a sort of tough guy.

reply

Well, I quite agree.

reply

Too foul mouthed for the Oscars.
