The badguys at the end shooting.....WHY OLD MEN????

though the final gun battle was awesome....i thought it was really funny that it was an army of old fat men, and im wondering why them? i think it would have been cooler if it was some guys in suits, like regular kind of bodyguards, and it seems like it would make sense...oh well.

i thought it was weird at first but there is some things you need to think of. they are "bag-men" and i think they are suppost to be experianced mobster style people. and the saying "the only thing you can asume about a brokendown old man is he is a surviver"

or something along those lines....know what im getting at?

The fact that they used weathered guys with middle age tires in their 50's as opposed to suit wearing slicks in their 20's or 30's (like me)was yet another brilliant aspect to this film. And like a previous poster pointed out, it adds merit to James Caan when he states that a broken down old bag-man is indeed a survivior. If they sent a group of cocky kids like Jeffers and Obecks in, Longbaugh and Parker would have surely had them for breakfast and the movie would have ended with L and P sipping on fancy cocktails on a beach resort somewhere.

These were buddies of Joe Sarno, so they have the same treadware as he does. You can see him crossing off a list at least once in the film; I think you see the notepad when he's tracking down Abner.

reply

oh yeah okay i think i remember the notepad part.....but yeah i get it...it was just funny at the time i saw it

reply

yeah, they're all joe sarno's buddies. they're supposed to be aging mobster/hitmen types. no slick men-in-black-suits ala reservoir dogs in the real world.

reply

That's what made it genius. To have old, out-of-shape guys. Its a refreshing take on the last stand shootout. How many times have you seen the endless amount of unidentifiable men in black suits in movie shoot-outs?

reply

Right, the men are dependable and trustworthy associates from Mr. Sarno's past.
...Unlike those two MIB types that also worked for Sarno's boss and were traitors.

They have 'been there, and done that' and have plenty of experience with the type of situation that they were in. You may not be a friend of firearms but, those who are know that older men (50+) generally prefer having a revolver as their carry weapon... It is simple and simple is dependable. In their time it was about the only pistol to carry that you could trust when you needed it most.*

(*Not to say that it is obsolete now, just that there are dependable semi-auto pistols available today of such quality and well known reliability such as the GLOCK, 1911, Hi-Power, Makarov, etc.)

As I was saying about older men (as with any elderly), they stick with what they know, and what works for them.

I always refer to the old guys in the final shootout as the J Frame Brigade.

reply

Old friends of Sarno's.

reply

Yeah you would say that.
First off it's 100+ degrees out there in that desert.
Second he probably called on men he could trust, you saw he went down a list in the flick. He's a thinker & after talking with Benecio about the young guns nowadays, well he couldn't trust some cowboys.
