McQuarrie's Reasoning Behind the Names 'Parker' and 'Longbaugh'

Butch Cassidy, born Robert LeRoy Parker. The Sundance Kid, born Harry Alonzo Longbaugh.

The Ain't It Cool News review just tipped me off to this little piece of trivia. And on that note, McQuarrie wrote the script in a mere five days.

He came home and fell down an elevator shaft onto some bullets.

That is pretty cool that Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid changed their last names to those of the characters in the movie. They must really have liked the movie alot.
