taye diggs...

...was awful. worst part of the movie for me, though otherwise i thought it was great. didn't think juliette lewis was quite as bad as everyone's been saying, either

i thought diggs was FANTASTIC. What was your beef with his performance?

reply

well for one thing it seemed he was reading lines right off some cue cards in an obvious way at certain points (ie after they first meet with sarno). other than that he just didnt really impress me, maybe he was just overshadowed by del toro, caan, and phillipe, or maybe i just need to see it again? i dunno

reply

I agree. Thought he was rock-solid in his part.

My only complaint with Taye Diggs' performance was the phone call when Longbaugh was giving them the demands and told them to have the money in 12 hours and Jeffers started screaming and yelling about how that wasn't enough time.

I know Jeffers was supposed to be putting on a show for Longbaugh in that scene (you could tell because both he and Obecks were smiling throughout the whole scene) but the show was not supposed to be a comedy. It was supposed to be convincing to the guy on the other end of the phone and it was not at all.

It sounded like he was doing Yosemite Sam. "Ooooh, you rascally rabbit. 12 hours! How am I supposed to come up with 15 million in 12 hours!? Sufferin' succotash! Oh, alright. 12 hours it is. See ya."

That scene bugs me every time I watch this.

I always thought that scene was meant to be comical. It was also to show that Obecks & Jeffers aren't people friendly, they don't really show emotion like that, so it's supposed to be awkward. As for his performance, there were only two scenes where it sounded like he was reading. Both in a scene with James Caan. Other than that, he was pretty awesome in this movie.

Taye Diggs performance gets really flimsy at times, like the phone scene mainly, there are other points where he breaks the illusion, but for the most part he was alright, but he defiantly was the worst part of the movie
