Why didn't they shoot...(Possible Spoiler)

...them in the hospital?

The movie took a wrong turn for me when they attempted to kidnap Robin in the hospital - and ended up retreating with their backs turned to Jeffers and Obecks. Why weren't they shot at this point?

You might say that Jeffers and Obecks figured they would be shot by the other people outside - but why risk a shootout when Parker and Longbaugh could have been shot in the back right then?
This seemed to defy logic. Did I miss out on some subtlety in the plot that others picked up on?

They never had their backs to them without being covered. Parker and Longbaugh always had each other covered while the other was moving. Remember during the scene one would say, "Move." and the other would reply, "Moving." and during ones move the other would cover and vice versa until they were out. To all 4 men it was a job. there was no cold blooded 'lust', nobody wanted to die or kill, it was all professional and personally I loved the scene for that. It was as real as it could be.

There's a mad man in there with his hand on a...on a BUTTON!

For the same reason Nicky Katt was in the process of telling the guys outside not to shoot via walkie talkie before all hell broke loose?

Because there was no need to, tey got away, the girl was "safe" no harm done, why make a mess of things, wich did happen, but could have been avoided.

Because, unlike us, they hadn't seen the film and didn't know how this would escalate. Plus, as has been said, they never had a clear shot, although at one point it is clear that they will shoot the woman if necessary.

They have all fairly well covered it. But..

All 4 knew if 1 shot was fired they all lose. If the guards shot Toro first, Philippe would kill them. if philipe shot first no guarantee the guards don't squeeze a shot at Toro or the baby.

The in the retreat, the guards knew they won so no need to jeopardize the baby by starting a shootout, so you let them go. After all she was one week from giving birth, and would probably increase the guard.
