Christopher McQuarrie 2015 interview on making TWOTG

Why he made the film, how he cast the film, the production, and what he learned overall.

Personally I think he's too critical. There are hundreds and hundreds of films made every year, just in the USA, that we barely hear about. Some are never heard of again. But this little film has a cult following which includes me. It's a great film to watch with friends.

I think it was before its time.

It's not what a movie is about, it's how it is about it.

thank you for the link!

it's awesome to see the directors thoughts on this gem of a movie;

I’m eternally grateful to the people who see it for what it is, as opposed to the people who tried to pigeon-hole it. I'm grateful to be answering these questions 15 years later. Is the film flawed, is it uneven? Certainly. But it’s sincere. In the years since, it's found its listeners. And that's what people who enjoy the film really are - listeners. Or like Joe, observers. I've since learned I can't make films strictly for them anymore. The rest of the class is holding them back. But I can send them little messages - a nod here, a wink there.
