When I watch this movie I laugh although I don't think it was intended to be funny. First off as someone who's played in bands for over a decade. The longstanding number 1 rule of a band is, NO girlfriends as managers. Its just asking for problems. The "Love Pollution" tribute band has a big of a draw as most national acts. A tribute act to a band thats still active drawing 500 to 1000 people to an outdoor show is kinda hard to belivie. Izzy was just mental...I have known a couple of guys in tribute bands that do it for money but they are not pathetic enough to claim to have written b-sides/lesser known songs of the bands catalog
Sure they are fans of the band and the songs
they play. But they also have originall projects as well, that they work. He was just overkill for a
man out highighschool to be that obsessed with one band. Plus countless more stuff...but its funny!

Aren't overbearing girlfriends of band members referred to as "Yokos" by musicians?

Bands should be required to watch This is Spinal Tap to get certified. It is like an OSHA film for rock 'n roll. The girlfriend manager did not work there either.

From a story point of view I think the girlfriend as manager was to show how naive he really was and how hometown they all are. That is from a writing point of view.

It seemed to me that most of the people at their shows were friends and friends of friends.

Izzy does seem to be an opportunist. Once he leaves Steel Dragon he appears to jump on the grunge/alternative rock scene because I assume it is approaching the time when metal is on the way out.

Ironically when he was with his friends and they wanted to play originals he was aghast.
