In the scene where Richie gets the candle in his eye. Why was Eddie making Owl noises?

It was just a gag. You think the owl noises are coming from outside, setting the scene because it's night time, then you realise it's just Eddie.

It's a funny gag, but I didn't get why Eddie was doing that.

Anyone familiar with the Bottom TV series will know and understand that Eddie likes to push Richie's buttons (Oo-er!).
