Jodie and the Bad News Bears
I knew when I say The Bad News Bears with Walther Matthau in 1976 that the story-line seemed familiar. Sure enough, Jodie Foster had done it three years earlier on the After School Special where she played a girl brought in to pitch for a boys little league team that was going under. So the version with Billy Bob Thornton should be called Bad News Bears III.
