Psssssst... Hammerman's After You!!!

OMG I remember the ABC Afterschool Specials! My all-time favorite was "PSSSSSST... HAMMERMAN'S AFTER YOU!!!" This one was classic... it starts out with a typical junior-high age boy returning home from school, crying to his mom that "Marv Hammerman's gonna kill me!" We then find out that as a joke, the boy wrote Marv Hammerman's name by one of the apes on an evolution poster in the school hallway. In a memorable scene, his friend (who refers to him as "Mouse") starts a "pass-it-on" whisper chain, with the kid shouting "He is???" out loud! After doing everything possible to elude Marv Hammerman (and his nerd-with-a-big-mouth sidekick), "Mouse" eventually faces Marv and gets knocked around a bit. To Marv's credit, he says "I think you've had enough" and stops pummeling "Mouse" any further.

That sorta sounds like "Three O'Clock High"

You should be exicted to know that Brentwood Home Video (www.bcieclipse.com) will be releasing "Psssssst...Hammerman's After You" along with 25 other episodes of After School Specials on DVD this fall and throughout 2005! I think the first batch (inlcuding Hammerman) will hit store shelves in mid-October!

This is concerning the ABC WEEKEND SPECIALS....

This was one of my favorite shows to watch on Saturday mornings...any child of the 80's remembers how good Saturday morning cartoons use to be. This show in particuliar sticks out in my mind as one of the best. I can remember them showing Ralph Mouse in a 3 part series...those were great!...But the one I would really like someone else to remember with me...is the episode where two kid's little brother is stolen by these troll looking things they are green...and live in a seperate world called OG...not only do they steal the little brother, but when a sock comes up missing or any toys or anything the children had the trolls in OG took it...I remember how when the children entered the land of OG they were finding all their missing belongings. HELP does anybody remember that? I am absolutely certain that it was called OG, or Land of OG or something like that...all the little trolls could only respond by saying "OG"....and they were green and the entire episode is animated.

If I recall correctly, the title of this was "Mark Hammerman's gonna clobber me!", and I'm surprised that I couldn't find it listed by title in the IMDB. I remember that it was an ABC Afterschool Special, and I'm very happy to see that I'm not the only one who remembers it.

Actually, it is listed on the DVD as "18th Emergency," which is the novel it was based on. A young Lance Kerwin (before his classic turn on JAMES AT 15) appears in this episode.

Here is the IMDB reference:

You're recalling the same thing I did, which is why the title is not listed as we suspect.

It was indeed PSSST . . . . Hammerman's After You.

The promo always showed the main character entering his apartment and whining "Mom, Marv Hammerman's gonna kill me!" and in all my searching, I thought this was the title.

I think I finally recalled the kid in something else (don't know what now) and found it that way.

I just watched "Hammerman's After You," and I loved it – a great mix of childhood fantasy and melodrama. I especially like the animation incorporated into Mouse's fantasy sequences. If you've ever been bullied, this type of though process is pretty real. And yes, I speak from experience.

Why was that episode also titled "The 18th Emergency"?

LMAO!! Yea that kid was one of the all-time biggest dorks EVER! Just looking at him was pricelessly funny - skinny, long stringy blonde hair, huge coke bottle glasses, and acting all tough...absolutely hilarious. He played a similar part in a different episode as well - "Summer of the Swans"

reply

Indeed. That actor (Kevin McCarley) seemed to specialize in playing the bully wannabe. He delighted in intimidating kids with the threat of Hammerman's vengeance, then he hid behind Hammerman once he set the two up. I suspect he and Hammerman built a lifetime together as domestic partners.
