Old Woman Stood Up by Cruel Kids - Episode Title?

Please excuse any missing details... but I vaguely remember this episode. It made me cry and I will never forget it. It was circa 1980 and featured a lonely old woman whom invited a group of children (that she thought she had befriended) to dinner. The children never showed up, as a result of a cruel trick, after the old woman prepared a nice dinner and was eagerly anticipating her young guests. It was an excellent example of love and empathy. I sure would be happy if someone knew more about this episode and shared it with me. Thank you!

This is strange...I came on this site looking for the exact same episode!! There was an eccentric older woman (well, the kids thought she was odd) and she invited a group of children over for her birthday party. She decorated and made goodies and no one showed up. I remember watching it in school a long (long...long...) time ago and remember crying too! I would love to find it again. Sorry I can't help locating it, but hopefully someone will

I wish I knew, I got teared up just reading that. I hate hearing about people being mean to old people. It makes me cry...

Oh my God!! I recall this film vividly, but I wasn't aware that it was an Afterschool Special. My middle school health teacher showed it to the class. It was hilarious how he mocked the mean-spirited girls: "We're goin' to Sheila's house. Up yours, Sheila!" By the way, in the climax, the main girl did go to the old lady's house, and took her little brother along. I've never forgotten the movie! Earlier than 1980, though.
