Just started watching. OMG-Addicted, obsessed

I just started watching after searching for something to occupy my time. I ran into the pilot and fell in love. This is the best series I have EVER seen. So sad it was only 3 seasons. The love Max has for Liz just draws me in. I don't care for Tess, but I've been doing Roswell marathons bc I can't get enough.

I've been looking for some of the songs and the one I am unable to find is "In the air tonight" sung by Majandra. So beautiful. I looked on iTunes but no luck. Suggestions?

Forever a fan.

reply

It is addicting, isn't it. I think it may be time for another marathon. I usually have one every year when I get the Winter Blues.

BTW: Not sure if you've read/watched the "Twilight" series. I learned of it on this board when others mentioned similarities between Bella & Edward and Liz & Max romances, and some similar scenes in both stories. You might like to give it a read/watch if you haven't already. I wasn't disappointed, hope you weren't/aren't as well.

Hi! Yes, so addicting.

I have watched the Twilight movies and they don't even come close to the love displayed on Roswell. To me, the actors in Twilight didn't pull me in as much as Roswell did. I think it's bc the acting wasn't that great. Don't get me wrong, I do have my Twilight days.

I've made comparisons between Twilight and Roswell and I always wondered if Twilight was copied from Roswell or just coincidence. I am just getting to the 3rd season. Have been watching 3 episodes a night. And watching repeats during lunch at work. Crazy. It's gotten to the point where I dream about them. Obsessed....yes.

What are your fave episodes/scenes? Mine are:
End of Destiny
End of the World
The Christmas epi w Max healing the children
Basically any scene w Max and that "look" he has. Being in love.

Well, the books are mostly what I was talking about. The movies just don't do the romance justice like the books do. Stephenie has excerpts and partials on her website you can read to see if you'd be interested in reading the books.

If you're interested:

Twilight Outtakes:

Eclipse First Chapter:
stepheniemeyer.com/pdf/eclipse_chapter1.pdf

Midnight Sun Partial Draft:
stepheniemeyer.com/pdf/midnightsun_partial_draft4.pdf

Midnight Sun is Twilight from Edward's point of view. There are only 12 chapters, but it should help you to decide if you want to read Twilight or not.

That is the conversation that I was reading that got me interested in the "Twilight Saga." I forget all the similarities though. Max/Edward saved Liz/Bella's life. The lab scene. The Twilight movie didn't show it, but there is a finger pricking scene in the lab in the Twilight book.

It was stated in the conversation that Stephenie had said she didn't remember ever seeing the show.

I didn't do a marathon last year, so it's been a while. hmm ... But I agree, pretty much any scene with Max and Liz affirming their love for each other is a favorite.

If you want to read a book like Roswell read the series Fingerprints. It's by the same author who write Roswell (Melinda Metz). Keep in mind while reading it those books were written before twilight.

I'll keep the book series in mind. The thing about old books is they're usually out of print and hard to get a hold of.

Right now I'm reading, Girl of Nightmares by Kendare Blake. It's the sequel to Anna Dressed in Blood.

Before them, I read:

The Dark Heroine series by Abigail Gibbs

Abigail wrote the books as a teen. She's in college now, working on book 3 of the series. There will be a total of 9.

I don't yet have an eReader, and I don't like reading books on my computer or phone. But I will bookmark the eBooks for when I do get an eReader or Tablet. eBooks tend to not go 'out of print,' so I have that in my favor.

Thanks.

BTW: I just introduced a 'Twilight' fan to 'Roswell,' so you may have another "newbie" to the show to chat with soon. I should probably watch the show again soon in case she has questions.

I only commented on the love between Edward & Bella being a lot like the love between Max & Liz. I didn't mention the other similarities. Will wait and see if she notices them herself.

Season 3 was the only downer for me . The episodes don't seem to link with the others like they did during season 1 and 2, where they had a season long main plot . Season 3 seemed like a season of one-off episodes .

I've read comments on this board that Katherine Heigl is to blame. Word is she demanded to be the center of most episodes.

Hey, I found the song on Youtube. It's a Veronica Mars video, but they use Majandra's version of "In the Air Tonight".

Oh and if you want more Roswell. Try to see if you can find the original Roswell High books. They are fairly different. Liz and Alex have different last names, and the Michael and Maria dynamic is a bit different, but they are great books. There was also a few books based on the TV show, but I haven't read them. Part of the reason they are a continuation of the third season that I have still not watched (except for a couple episodes). Still if you have seen all the episodes they are worth a look.

I have decided to try to watch the episodes I have not seen soon. Started watching Season one over again on Netflix last week.

From a deleted thread:

Question:
I'm really confused about how the Roswell books fit into the timeline and stories of the show. After? Before? During?

Answer:

BEFORE:

The Roswell High books were the first ones out:

01. The Outsider
02. The Wild One
03. The Seeker
04. The Watcher
05. The Intruder
06. The Stowaway
07. The Vanished
08. The Rebel
09. The Dark One
10. The Salvation

DURING:

Then these books came out during the series:

01. Loose Ends
02. No Good Deed
03. Little Green Men

AFTER:

* Then these came out:

01. Shades
02. Skeletons In The Closet
03. Dreamwalk
04. Quarantine

05. A New Beginning
06. Nightscape
07. Pursuit
08. Turnabout

* NOTE:
The first four novels act as a bridge between Seasons 2 and 3. The last four are set after the events of the series, and are considered by many fans to be 'Season 4'.

Cool. With so many newbies first viewing the show, and us fans rewatching the show, all at about the same time, we can get some conversations going. I've been trying to get some members of the 'Twilight' boards to join in on a 'Roswell' Watch-A-Thon.

I had originally stopped watching sometime during the second season. I could not stand Tess and the Skins story lines, and oh the Dupes (I think that was what they were called). Still, I think I should try to watch it, and see if my feelings changed.

I remember watching that random episode of season 3. I think Michael was at a bowling alley? I was like, "Hey this episode was actually pretty good. Too bad I have no idea what's going on."

I am thinking I really should try to find copies of the "During" books. Perhaps the others after I finish watching the series. It really depends on how I feel and I have many other books to read. Ha ha.

I haven't read the Twilight books, however if someone wants to start up a chat, I would not mind doing that. Looks like the old crashdown website is still around.

reply

Some of the books are in eBook form. But the used books are very expensive. People know how badly 'Roswell' fans want them and are selling them for a few hundred dollars. I'm hoping that eventually they'll all be sold as eBooks ... and especially as PODs as well. The Publishers could sell them through Lulu.com, as a lot of other 'out of print' 'tie-in' books are being sold there.

I learned of the 'Twilight' books on this board, and if you like the bond between Max and Liz, I think you may enjoy the 'Twilight' books as well.

Definitely concluded that my favorite episode is "The End of the World" w/ future Max. The parts where Liz tries to get Max to fall out of love w/ her just pulls on my heart strings. You can tell how much he loves her. I guess I'm a sucker.

Other fave episodes (most bits and pieces):
Sexual Healing
Blind Date
Tess, Lies and Videotape
Destiny
Skin & Bones
Heart of Mine
It's Too Late and It's Too Bad
Baby, It's You
The Departure
Graduation - Although I didn't like it too much because it seemed so rushed to end the series.

Thank goodness for iPads. Can watch them wherever I go. :)

I suppose I was always a bigger fan of the beta couple, Michael and Maria. I still liked Liz and Max though. I still do, but I have noticed that my feelings for them has change a little bit. So maybe I will be more accepting of Tess this time around, well, until she does that spoilerous thing toward the end of season 2 (which was one of my last straws back in the day). Haven't watched an episode in a few days so I am still I am still on season 1, though I am almost done. Operation rewatch is doing well, but will take a few weeks. I ordered copies of the three during books, but as I said before, I am not sure about the other ones just yet.

Partly because of the cost. My husband told me to cool it on my spending for a bit. LOL

reply

I felt that way too when I first started watching Roswell :D for me Max was always so captivating and I loved his "soulful" moments with Liz. But the comedy and angst was def. with Michael and Maria such as in Independance Day. But Max and Liz also had some of that as shown in End of the World and Balance. Such a good show.

Not like I love you

Yeah. Looks like more people know about the aliens though, and the angle is a bit different elsewhere. The romantic connection seems similar too. And is it pretty cute. Either way it does look very interesting. I was a bid older than you. I was 20 when the first season of Roswell first came out. This new series, based on previews, appears to focus more on xenophobia. It is a problem that sadly happens today with immigration debate. I think the mix of romance, suspense, and social commentary could make this show every interesting indeed.
