Season 2 uncut finale?

I have heard that the Season 2 finale was cut down from 2 hours to one and that there existed somewhere the uncut version - because It had been filmed. Is this true? If it is - does anyone know where to find it to watch it?

I have also heard some similar things about season 3 - but I am not sure if that one had actually been filmed and I haven't heard as much about this one, so it sounds more like a rumor.

There's definitely a 2 hour season 2 finale kicking around the Internet somewhere but I've been looking for it for years and nothing has ever come up.

Why the hell they didn't put it on the S2 DVD, I'll never know.
I hadn't heard about the S3 ep but then I kind of like to pretend S3 never happened anyway....

Seriously. It sucked ass.

I spent all day last Sat looking for it on the internet. the closest I could find was the script. I have also heard people say that they never filmed the whole 2 hours - just some extra scenes that would have been in it if it did get the 2 hours. But it seems really hard to say what is fact or fiction here. They definitely did write a script of it but who knows how much of it was actually filmed - which may be why it never made it to the DVD.

S3 is probably just wishful thinking on some parts. I have only heard a couple of people say that so most likely it isn't true. It would have been nice if it was because the last episode was really rushed. At least there was some kind of ending - and you are right. S3 did kind of suck. Although I didn't hate it. There was a lot of potential there for it to be great, they just couldn't get it together.

Lol season 3 was SO bad. Like hilarious bad. Season 1 and 2 were pretty epic (1 more so obviously) but season 3 I was literally sitting there staring at my computer screen like is this SERIOUSLY where this show is going??? Kind of wish it ended in Season 2 and I could erase Season 3 from my memory. The only good thing about season 3 was that everyone got hotter. That was the ONLY good thing. Everything else about it completely sucked.

I thought season three was getting better - esp after the whole wedding nonsense - but of course they canceled it. Mostly due to the first part of the season being less then stellar. I am being kind I know, I did like some aspects of season 3 but for the most part it was just bad. Esp that "I married an Alien" episode. Making Isabel the primary character was a mistake. Keep in mind that this is coming from someone who used to be a huge Katherine Heigl fan and who used to wish Isabel would get more screen time. I strongly believe when a show has an ensemble of characters that there should be character driven arcs at times. But whoever chose Isabels was smoking crack. I also like Jessie (originally, not as much when I re-watched the episodes recently) - just NOT as an husband.

Anyway, I really think that the show would have recovered if given some more time. This show is a perfect example of what happens when the network heads start to fiddle with things too much - Along with Firefly and Life Unexpected. I know I have some other examples but can't think of them right now.

So you would advise someone who is new to the show (like me) not to watch season 3?

Sorry for my bad English but I’m from The Netherlands

I don't believe these cut scenes were ever actually filmed but here's a website that has scripts of cut scenes from most episodes of the series, including the season 2 finale. It would be amazing to find out if these were ever actually filmed but unfortunately, I don't believe they were and have seen no reason to believe they were.

Sarcasm seems to go right over your head. Oh, well. Reach for it!

it sounds as if *some* of the scenes were filmed but not all and who knows how many.

thank you for the link! :)

Didn't that book on Roswell (going to check the title..."Crash Into Me: The World of Roswell") say the 2 hour series finale was filmed, but the WB had them edit it into a 1 hour episode?

As for S3, there were probably scripts for episodes that were never filmed once UPN started fiddling with the episode counts for the season (first a 13 episode order, then full season order, then the order was finally cut back to 18 because the ratings started sinking).

reply

I'm out of town right now, but I will try to remember to check the book when I get home.
I don't recall there being anything in it about a 2 hour filmed finale or any other cut, filmed scenes.
I'm pretty sure filmed, cut scenes of Roswell are just an urban (or rural) legend.

CW's current Beauty and the Beast feels to me a lot like what I imagined a Roswell remake ten years after would be.

Veronica Mars got a movie funded by fans, I think if they replaced Heigl they could probably pull it off for Roswell, I highly doubt Heigl would do a Roswell reboot.

there is no way she would return to Roswell now. As much as I love the original actors in the parts I kind of wish they would just re-boot the whole show. Keep season 1 pretty much the same and then fix what started to go wrong in Season 2 onward. Granted I have a really hard time thinking of any current actors that would do the parts justice but I am lousy at doing that anyway.

Katherine should come back. She hasn't made a good movie, well, ever. Her career is not great.

KH, I think has done a couple funny movies, at least from the female (well me anyway and some of my friends), although I havent seen all of hers or the rest of the cast in all they have done since Roswell ended.
With the way the networks worked (still seem to today too), it seem they just couldnt make up minds as well run them which puts writers and all in "tale spins" or so it seems, and season 2 did have 1 less than the 22 usual episodes, so cut off in in half??? As for season 3, ya not the greatest and if it had been given a fare chance could have been better and def the last epi was way to rushed. Personally I think if the script was great for a follow up of where are they now, all would come back

Season 3 never...NEVER happened. THere was no bigger fan of Roswell than me back in the day, but after a few minutes of episode 1 season 3, I never bothered again. The scripts sucked and the budget was obviously tiny.....

Season 1 and 2 are 10's
Season 3 was a 3 out of ten!!!! It blew chunks...

Roswell was the BEST thing ever on the WB, better than Buffy, that trash Angel, Dawson Creek...you name it...Smallvilee was a joke!

Great acting, superb script......

It was a SHOW WHERE GEEKS/GUYS COULD WATCH BECAUSE OF THE SCI-FI stuff. WB is traditionally a female channel since the late 90's and Roswell was a gem for all genders.

reply

I love Roswell but I wouldn't ever put it ahead of Buffy. The acting and writing on Buffy was a lot better IMO. Seasons 2 and 3 are perfection.

"That's not what making out sounds like. Unless I'm doing it wrong."

I love Buffy but I don't put that over Roswell. Every has different opinions I suppose.

But the finale was supposed to be longer for both season 2 and 3.

What a day! What a lovely day!
