Series finale

Hi,

Just wanted to know whether the series finale has closure or leave it on a cliff hanger with..?

reply

They're traveling off into the unknown. We don't know where they ended up, or what became of them.

There are books that are considered to be season four. I haven't read them yet. Here is a quote from an old conversation on this board that has long since been deleted:

Question:
I'm really confused about how the Roswell books fit into the timeline and stories of the show. After? Before? During?

Answer:

BEFORE:

The Roswell High books were the first ones out:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roswell_High#Books

01. The Outsider
02. The Wild One
03. The Seeker
04. The Watcher
05. The Intruder
06. The Stowaway
07. The Vanished
08. The Rebel
09. The Dark One
10. The Salvation

DURING:

Then these books came out during the series:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roswell_(TV_series)#Novels

01. Loose Ends
02. No Good Deed
03. Little Green Men

AFTER:

* Then these came out:

01. Shades
02. Skeletons In The Closet
03. Dreamwalk
04. Quarantine

05. A New Beginning
06. Nightscape
07. Pursuit
08. Turnabout

* NOTE:
The first four novels act as a bridge between Seasons 2 and 3. The last four are set after the events of the series, and are considered by many fans to be 'Season 4'.

(I saved it to another board for times like this when I can just copy/paste.)

I feel like the 2nd post here doesn't really answer the question, just talks about the books. Which I'm really glad they posted that, I've never read them and I think I will start.

To answer the question bolla, yes the finale has plenty of closure. No cliff hangers. Back when TV was better...imo ;)

You're very welcome for the mention of the books. I hid my answer to the question in a spoiler in case any new viewers are reading the threads.  Personally, I feel that the finale doesn't have closure. And them wandering off into the unknown ... traveling about nonstop to keep ahead of those tracking them ... is a big cliff hanger. But that's JMHO. YMMV Which is seems it does. πŸ‘½ξͺ

I've not read the last four books considered to be season four, so I don't know if they offer a better closure. 

You're very welcome. I got online to check out the list of nursing home rehab centers that my sister was given. Not a 5-star among them. How sad is that? No one holds caretakers to a high standard anymore.

Good luck on getting those books. The last 2 are a 2 part finale. They are not ebooks and the last one, when I was hunting them down was 700 bucks paperback used. I ended up "losing" my libraries copy. They are worth reading though.

MAJOR spoilers-The Final Episode

Isabel left Jesse at the end of the show to "keep him safe". Kyle said good bye to his father , who became a deputy again after being fired/demoted. Kyle was concerned he would develop "powers" because of his healing from Max, and wanted to be near the aliens in case something happened. The goodbye between Valenti/Kyle was SUPER emotional between the two characters and one of my favorite scenes. Max and Liz got married , with only those who came with them in attendance (Maria, Michael, Kyle, Isabel). It was a really pretty slow mo scene with Liz looking very bohemian in her wedding attire complete with baby's breathe in her hair. There is a voiceover in the end which is "read" through Liz's dad reading her good bye note at the Crashdown (crying) and with specific instructions to burn her diary where her "husband was born". This was also emotional. The final shot is of them entering a van and driving off into the distance with Liz saying "And I'm Liz Parker, and I'm happy", with a big smile. I remember a lot of us were surprised she didnt say Liz Evans, but whatever lol. Maria and Michael were still strong when the show ended, and Marias mom kind of disappeared towards the end of the show, so we didn't really see them two say good bye.

So there IS closure in a sense, but a cliffhanger in what happened to them? The final episode was supposed to be two hours but got cut at the last minute to an hour (just like the previous seasons finale). This made the final ep feel kind of rushed but they wrote the episode to satisfy most fans as they knew at this point that the show wasn't being renewed.

There was fan fic written by a writer named Carol0000 I think her name was. She took the show from the last episode and wrote a fantastic story that followed them on what happened and even years later. I always considered that the "final" episode, even though I heard of the books and read the first one (very good) I never finished the rest and then they were hard to find.

What a day! What a lovely day!

I kinda wondered too why we did not see Maria s mom was not seen, then did find out a couple things re the actress who played her, not bad, just circumstance. The ending also had, "give this to Maria s mom to read then take it..." It was an ending, as they were leaving behind high school and going forward into the world.

I am a pen to paper writer, horrid at editing, and did try to read the books, and I do like to read, but found them not the same. I also went in a different direction than some others. In what have written, Kyle will not get any powers as he was only healed that one time. Part of that reasoning was all those kids healed and even though was a different kind of healing, the child with autism, (though when thinking about it, but did not show up, he would have been the closest one to have a bit of a connection to Max because it was so different), and of course Kyle s dad would not either. I also wanted to see Ava turn up somewhere, she didnt, least with the first one, maybe the second.

Did try and type, but I need help with editing, so someday. I even tried to creative type, but nope, and it is only when writing with my right hand that the words flow, not my left, which would be nice as hand gets really sore...Also not sure of the legal way to put it out, that and would be nice to earn a bit. Have read some fan fic from Roswell somewhere dont remember and from 1 other show, not bad at all to read what other fans come up with.

Maybe missing something obvious here but when was Liz healed more than once?(I'd say the cancer kids didn't get powers because it was a different sort of healing, otherwise every broken ankle or bruise healed would have side effects and there'd be a super pigeon out there somewhere.Max didn't heal the autistic kid because of some patronising Hollywood nonsense about "You can't heal him because there's nothing wrong with him.")

reply

The connection between Max an Liz, is also part of reason, typing when tired you miss things, as the love between them that he would not have with any of the others, his completely opening up to Liz right from the start and was the first time healing a human. When Liz first started to "show powers" he used the healing stones, where she was reacting, finally to the hurt an pain of his having sex with Tess. Before that though was in the epi Sexual Healing when, well maybe not a true healing but the "glowing" when touching her and "healing" that different hickey and the visions between them. She was seeing what was meant for Tess and him to see, something that because she was the very first one Max healed and he already felt something for her, she was different. Hope this made sense.

The autistic kid did not need healing but as typed, this is only my thinking too, but what ever Max tried to do for him, makes me think there could be more of a connection to the autistic child because was not a "healing". Again, hope my thinking made sense.

reply

Yeah, that...kinda makes sense.Liz did first start to "show powers" in the second season, when she was able, albeit with Ava's help, to briefly appear to Max when he was in a completely different part of the country, which was where the idea that she'd been altered by him healing her first came from.

reply

I just finished the series and I was under the impression that Liz got powers not just because Max healed her but because he brought her back from death (or at least near death). Wasn't that the whole premise behind the season 3 episode Panacea? Max had brought Liz back from death (in the pilot) and she returned the favor by killing the old man max was possessing allowing him to take over the new body and thus "bringing him back to life".

Also, Kyle makes more than one reference that he will probably be exhibiting alien power in a year because Max brought him back to life after he got shot at the end of season 1 (I believe that's when it happened). So I don't think it's a matter of just being healed by Max.

reply

Actually in S2 (Max in the City, I think it was), Ava explained that Zan was careful never to bring someone back because it changes them, as Max did to Liz, which is why Liz could reach out to Max when he needed help in NYC. So while the cancer patients were sick and possibly dying, he didn't bring them back, just cured them, and the autistic child - again he did not bring him back, actually he didn't really do anything apparently. But he did bring back Kyle in S1, and Jim in S3, so those two could potentially develop some sort of powers.

reply

Yikes. Got them for a tenner (Canadian) circa 2004.
