Should be re-made in America

Same idea; white, working class, single parent family, maybe in small town America. Haunted by an evil paedophile or serial rapist or something vile like that. Would be on 'live' tv with a big name presenter, someone older (like our Parky!) that the public would trust not to trick them.

Could be amazing if they did it right.

Why? It works perfectly well as it is, and then wouldn't be unique.
America doesn't have to remake everything.

I'm kind of tired of remakes and wish they'd do something original for a change, but, yeah, if they have to keep mining the past and other country's films instead of letting the orginals stand on their own merits, then Ghostwatch would be a good one. I don't see how they'd improve it much, though.

Still, they're remaking worse things. I keep hearing rumors about a remake of the incredibly-overrated Martyrs, and that's depressing for the horror genre because there's not even really a story in that one. It'd be like remaking a porno movie... what's the point?

reply

But they would not do it right, they would want flashy effects and storyline resolution.

I'm not saying that the American public would want it like that but the studio would make what they think the public wants which is in fact something different.

In the end we'd have a story about some evil spirit chasing girls through the house, with dark shadows, spooky figures and effects up the wazzoo, those who know of Ghostwatch will not want a flashy 'hollywood' remake, those who don't know wouldn't care either way and if you're not making it for the fans, make something else.

reply

Quite right.
The fact that it ddin't have multi million dollar effects (that still look fake) and had an ok story line was what actually made this work.
Seriously, no need for a remake

I'm normally not a fan of needless remakes but Ghostwatch might be an exception to that for me.

The reason I would like to see it remade is to be 'fooled'

I didn't see Ghostwatch during the original airing, so when I did watch it I was fully aware that it was a hoax. I enjoyed it, but there was something missing, that thrill of being fooled. I know some people didn't like it, but I would have enjoyed it.

Of course if it turned into a Michael Bay style CGI over plot fest, I'd avoid it like the plague, but ya know, if it was a good remake.

reply

Yes, because what we really need is a crass Yank version where we see Pipes appear on screen for several minutes at a time making unsubtle remarks alluding to The Bible and 9/11.

reply

Let's not.

These bastards!

reply

Nah. The Britishness is part of the charm with this one. An American remake would be bland.
