Lighting in Season 4

Does anyone know why they decided in Season 4 to use more "natural" light and shadows? There are scenes with characters standing in various levels of shadow including over their faces?

I understand wanting realism vs. the uniformity of studio lighting, but I find it more distracting than enhancing the mood or tone of the scene.

I was always bothered by the lighting Season One episodes directed by actor Ken Olin. He seemed to like filming light fixtures, which was something we played with doing in my high school TV production class.

One of my fellow students is now one of the best know lighting designers, Robert Dickinson.

All the world is a stage and most of us are desperately unrehearsed.

Is that when Thomas Schlamme the producer and director left?
