I'm only on the 2nd season and so far, she's only appeared maybe 4 or 5 times. While I have no problems with Stockard Channing's acting, i feel like whenever she's on it just kind of brings down the entire show, like all of a sudden the first lady who's almost never mentioned shows up usually just to complain and be kind of annoying, still with Channing's good acting which keeps her from being a truly painful character. Does anyone feel like this? I feel like maybe if she was a regular character who we cared about, and had her own stories I wouldn't have any problem with her, but with her guest appearances I just want to get back to the main guys/story.

By the end of Season 2, she is almost a regular. By Season 3, she was put into the credits.

I find Stockard to be an amazing actress and enjoyed her appearances on the show. I don't want to spoil the show for you, but she significantly adds to the drama from mid-season 2.

You have to buy into the motivations of her character, or the show is pretty much a waste of your time.
