Aspirational in light of this year's election season

After barely enduring the past few months of vitriol and idiocy I mailed my absentee ballot and began to rewatch the entire series on Netflix. I find myself feeling sad as I watch these characters, wishing that I had the option to vote for Jed Bartlett. Yes I know it's fiction, but wouldn't it be great if we really had a candidate of such intelligence and conscience.

I definitely agree with you on this!

I finally watched the entire show starting in August and just finished about a week ago. The entire time I watched, the ugliness of the debates, scandals, etc. were there when I turned off Netflix, and it did make me wish we had Bartlet on the ballot instead!

However, I'm sure things will work out for the best for all of us on November 8 - glad you voted early, too! 👏

I do agree with this! I started watching this again when I was getting frustrated with our current political mess. Even though it is completely fictional it still comforts me to know that there are some people who have good ideas to help our country. Now if only we could get people like that to run!

Completely. Been watching TWW over the past 3 months and certain episodes have synced with the events of the 2016 election. I coincidentally watched the Bartlet/Ritchie debate episode the day before the first Clinton/Trump debate.

On the night of the election I watched the Santos/Vinick debate. After the result I find it difficult to watch the show with the same pleasure. The thought of two potential candidates like Santos and Vinick in comparison to what we had is insane. In this case the reality is stranger than fiction. So sad.

Me. When politics gets me feeling too cynical I return to TWW to lift my hopes again.

Why feel bad?

The West Wing predicted that America would embrace cultural liberalism to such an extent that they would eventually choose a Republican candidate so secular and liberal (Vinick) that he would have to have a religious nut as VP.

Well, that's exactly what happened.

Trump is a New York liberal with gay frienda and a string of divorces behind him. He's the beginning of the end of the religious right's monopoly on the Republican party.

Not as classy as Vinick but meh... it's a start.
