Season 2 Episode 9 'Galileo'

Donna Moss "We colonised Peurto Rico and they will rise up against us."

Josh Lyman "I think we can take them."

Donna Moss "That's what we said about the British."

Josh Lyman "We took the British?"

Donna Moss "You know what I'm saying."

Josh Lyman "Hardly ever."

Shouldn't the Deputy Chief of Staff and his PA know that the British took the British, and not Americans?

Shouldn't the Deputy Chief of Staff know that Puerto Ricans are born American citizens like Hawaiians and therefore "taking them" is not that clear cut?

I have enjoyed this series immensely up to this point and until now I haven't seen any dialogue jump out at me screaming "Dumb!". Hopefully this is not a start of a quality decline.

He's saying that America won the war. And it's pretty well laid out in the scene that Puerto Rico is an American territory. I'm not convinced you completely listened to the entire scene or paid attention. Also, it's really not dumb or bad writing just because you don't like the phrasing imo.

We took the British...
(while they were burning down the White House)
