anybody else pick up on this reference

So back in 1987 Billy Crystal was in a movie named Throw Momma from the train and if you have seen it (if you haven't you should check it out) you will know that Billy's character is a writer and writing teacher and throughout the movie is struggling to come up with the opening line to his book, as far as he can get is "The night was______. and he can't seem to find the right word, That is until his friend Owen's ghastly Mother (who Billy is trying to kill) comes up with 'sultry'.

anyway i am going somewhere with this so hang tight.

In monsters inc toward the end where Mike (who remember is viced by Crystal)shows Sully he has reconstructed Boo's door, he say to sully something along the lines of 'Follow the sound of my sultry voice'. anyway it only struck me just now after watching monsters inc again. so just wanted to know if anyone else noticed it since it's not even listed here as a connection and i am sure it was done on purpose as 'Sultry' is a very quotable line from Crystals character in 'Throw momma from the train"

But sultry is a real word. Not one made up by Throw Momma on the train (what a name :D )

I think you might be on to something there. It struck me as being an unusual term for them to say to each other.

In Throw Mama From the Train, was the line, "The night was moist."?

I may not have a brain Gentlemen,....but I have an idea!

'the night was moist' was one of the few ideas he came up with but didn't think was right

When Randall threatens Fungus by putting him through the shredder, it referenced Steve Buscemi's character's death in Fargo!

reply

oh wow it is too

I like when movies made for kids have references/jokes that adults can enjoy. It helps improve the rewatchability factor.

Although not Disney/Pixar, I thought the Shrek movies were great for this as well.
