this is a movie for...

this is a movie for the fans. for the fans of anyone who is involved in this film.

i think it's terrible that people have gone to screenings of this movie thinking it's a serious thing. then they come on here and try to give it a evaluative review that compares it's devices in cinematography to that of a serious film. it's a piss take and a *beep* you" to anyone who tries to put these people down.

i'm a fan of almost everyone on the cast list. and i think the story Roecker has picked up for this movie is great.

this movie in an inside joke between friends/fans/followers

reply

That's fine, but don't sell it to me as an actual "film" worth the price of admission. I went to see this flick based on Roecker's interview and the voice talents involved. I'm also a fan of just about everyone who lent their voices (though I noticed that Warren was listed on imdb but not the film's credits, WTF?) but that didn't excuse the ineptitude of this work.

If you're correct about it being an inside joke, which based on my viewing I assume you are, this film is basically a home movie you watch every so often. It's fun for you but everyone else growns when you bring it out.

I wouldn't screen my home movie and advertise it as something else and neither should Roecker.

reply

Yes. Thats just what i think. It's not a film to be studied as a "magnificent masterpiece". It IS a home movie. I don't think Roecker is advertising it as anything more than a film for fans. Live Freaky! Die Freaky! isn't exactly up there with all the blockbusters.

However, i have bought the DVD. And i will be forcing all my friends to watch it.

reply

I know it's not to be studied as a masterpiece, but Roecker was advertising as something worthy of consumption and my $10. As a rabid fan of the Evil Dead Trilogy I understand the "cult" side of camp/horror/shock, and this film isn't even enjoyable on that level. As you can see, I'm pretty pissed at this flick right now. :-)

reply

i can understand your disappointment, but if you weren't so mislead by things before hand you may have known what to expect.

from the sounds of things i would be pretty pissed too, having bought the dvd only to find out that its not all it seemed. I guess i'm lucky in the way that i've been able to look up info for LFDF before i've seen it (because it's not coming out in the UK). I know that i'm not going to see a film with great plot devices or amazing animation, but i do know that i'm gonna see the product of a bunch of people who i admire (in other fields of entertainment). for some that may not be enough of a reason to watch a movie, but it is for me. i mean, i even went out and bought Fat Albert for just 20 seconds of a scene that the front man of my favourite band was in. (coinsidently, he's also in LFDF)

reply

wait, so you havn't seen LFDF yet?

I personally wonder......

reply

No. I should have by now but the DVD hasn't arrived yet. :(

But before you question why I'm talking about who this movie is for, I have researched this film extensively.

reply

yeah I no i no just like i did before i got it. I wouldn't say it is for fans of the band members or anything...well for some like myself. just don't have high expectations for this movie.

I personally wonder......

[how would you deffine a fan like yourself?]

Here's what i'm trying to say - John Roecker hasn't exactly made a film to be competing for the number one blockbuster spot. Nor has he made it to reap up awards from the Oscars (well, it doesn't seem that way). So if it's not a movie to grab a new audience then it's a movie for those who are already in some way involved. The only reason people have heard about this movie is through it's cast and their fans. They're apparently touring with bands, and showing and selling the movie on the tour. So from this i would say that it is a movie targeted at gig-goers.

I think that the fact that it offends people is a plus for John Roecker but i don't think he over did it. Roecker takes pride for most major stores refusing to sell the dvd. He didn't try too hard. In my opinion, he got it just right.

And to quote the man himself "they're just puppets!". If people take offense to it it's coz they want to. I mean, why else would people who hate LFDF still be hanging around the message boards for it huh?

Why is it offensive? Is it because it's pointing out the stupidity of conforming and following others beliefs? It can't be because of the sex and violence. EVERY movie has some sex and violence in it! You can't have a movie without it. Plus, as i mentioned a second ago - they're just PUPPETS.

ok, i have seen this film now. I must admit, after all the negative responses i've read about i was quite reluctant to see it. But i did and i think it's great. It's the Team America that didn't compromise it's themes and content to please it's audience.

reply

"how would you define a fan like yourself?"

I think this was aimed at me..

anyways I meant not all fans of green day or good charlotte or rancid are gonna love this movie....it might not be their thing.

I myself am a fan of most of the band members that did voice work for this movie and I am also a fan of adultish movies that involve puppets or are animated (meet the feebles, south park bigger longer and uncut, beavis and butthead do america, team america etc.) so this movie was right up my alley... plus the story line sounded very origional. This movie was cool!

I personally wonder......

reply

yes it is.

[and i know what you mean about the movie not being to some peoples tastes, no one loves the same thing. also, i hope that question didn't sound rude, it wasn't meant to. but when i read it back just now i saw that it could have been taken the wrong way :S]

reply

Na i got wat ya meant

I personally wonder......

reply

Yeah not wrong about that! lmao I'll get round to watching it some day! lol

reply

At least 1/4 of the jokes would only be understood by people who knew anything about Charles Manson and The Family. I watched Live Freaky, Die Freaky with two friends and wound up explaining the Manson jokes to them, because I wrote a research paper on Manson in my 1960s class at school.

reply

I showed it to my friend and he said that he was really kinda watching it only for the voice talent "other than that...the movie is kinda *beep* Later I found out he didn't even know who charles manson was......ugh. That explains alot.

I personally wonder......
