Melissa, Her Dad . . . . . And Josie?

After watching several episodes emphasizing Melissa's hair, then seeing her dad again, I realized they are both dark, . . . . . just like Josie.

I thought it was shown that Josie did have the purple hair like her mother, but I can't confirm having seen that, but it did make me wonder; is Melissa's father supposed to be Josie's dad?

I've seen other posts stating Josie was adopted (which seems odd to me for a woman just divorced to do), but it seems it could still be revealed that Josie is Melissa's half-sister or whatever the case may be.

Anyone else thought this?

"No, Josie was adopted. It says so here at this site. Here's the addy."

so anyone else thought that Melissa might be Josie's kin, their having the same father?

Brendon and Paula mention her being adopted in "Temporary Blindness", though it's possible Paula might have just TOLD Brendon she was adopted. Nevertheless, to argue against it being Erik's kid:

a) she seems on far too relaxed terms with Erik for that to be the case
b) she seems on far too good terms with her ex-husband for that to be the case
c) Paula's money problems were the subject of many episodes, and indeed Paula asks Erik to help her find a job in "Business & Pleasure". Erik seems to be reasonably well-off, if Paula was strapped for cash you'd think he'd be obliged (even legally obliged) to support his kid.
d) Josie has been dark from the very beginning, and it wouldn't be like Home Movies at all to foreshadow something as subtle as that that early (especially as they never did anything with it)

I really like both Erik and Paula, mainly in terms of how they interacted with their kids. Reminds me of my partents. I thought it would have been funny if those two had tried a relationship and have it fail miserably. It would have been funny to watch Brendon and Melissa try to handle that situation. You would think that because of their personalities that Erik and Paula would have gotten along. But Paula always seemed that she was annoyed by him for some reason.

You're definitely not alone, I've thought that Josie might be Erik's too... but they never said so, and I assume they would have used it as a plot point by the 3rd season if that were the case. But, good conjecture... I'm with you on this.

If this were the case, it would be along similar lines of Dale-Nancy-Joseph-John Redcorn situation on King of the HIll, but that relationship was directly addressed in one episode (when Peggy was the last to realize what everyone else already knew) as well as with future episodes in which Nancy 'reacquainted herself' with Dale and broke off with Redcorn.

In the end, Joseph clearly emerged only as Redcorn's kid by biology.

But in the case of Home Movies, this would be a connection between Brandon and Melissa, and any insight into Brandon's mother's behavior to Josie's dad is secondary, still insightful, but not the crux of who Josie is affecting or divulging.

IF she were Melissa's half-sister as well as Brandon's, the joke would be this is what the combination between the outspoken and precocious Brandon and equally outspoken and precocious Melissa would be; a gibbering baby with glasses, neither speaking nor 'seeing'.
