Coach McGuirk and Brendon
One of my favorite parts of Home Movies is the relationship between Brendon and Coach McGuirk. They have similar personalities and so they get along well, but there was always a slight weirdness to their friendship since McGuirk is an adult and Brendon is 8, so when McGuirk takes Brendon with him on a "road trip" involving identifying a body, it's hilarious and creepy at the same time. I mean, if you found out your son's soccer coach took him to see a dead body, you'd probably call the cops. But it's funny because we know that McGuirk isn't crazy, just really oblivious and didn't realize it would be weird to take Brendon with him.
I've always thought these kinds of moments were the best parts of the show. They aren't traditional friends, and McGuirk even acts like a twisted father figure to Brendon sometimes, where instead of teaching him about the real world, he tells him about his crazy version of reality (Area 51, where the government keeps the aliens. Area 52, where the government keeps illegal aliens).
