Apeman?

Did anyone else find it strange that the guy playing Apeman (Pete Smith) also played one of Jakes pub mates in the first movie?
I mean seriously I know we are quite a small country in the great scheme of things but COME ON! there has to be another Maori actor that could have played this role? Did they look at his resume when he auditioned? Did they see the first movie before making this? Did Tem have amnesia?

I noticed that. Even through all the extra hair you could see it was him.

Sh!t, Like I was thinking the same thing when he walked in there to get his son and apeman goes apesh!t on Jake.... They could of gotten uncle Bully to play Apeman...at least you could understand why but his best friend??? Does'nt make sense really seeing as the last time you saw apeman in part one, he was having a good old beer booze wif Jake??? Hmmmm

Surely you people understand that just because it is the same actor that doesn't mean its supposed to be the same charcter. Perhaps they chose Pete Smith (thats the actor's name) because the WBOTBH film makers thought he was a good actor who was capable of portraying for than one character.

I can appreciate that, but it does get a bit annoying.. It's like Ray Meagher seems to pop up somewhere in every Australian production.. He was in 'Prisoner - Cell Block H' at least twice.. Once as Fletch's old army buddy (who eventually killed his wife & kid, I seem to remember) and towards the end as 'Craven' - the corrupt governor of Blackmore ultra-high security prison.

Or maybe there's just a lack of decent actors who can portray certain roles in Oz/NZ ?

I was pretty perplexed by this and hoped someone else would notice, too. It's crazy!

I never even noticed, although it seems so obvious now.

I think this sequel is absolute class, if you watch neither film for a good couple of years and then view both back-to-back you might get a better appreciation of WBOTBH.

I recognized him right away. I was actually hoping that it was the same character, so it was dissapointing that he wasn't. But if he wasn't, they should cast another actor imo. It just seems bad to me, that they would cast the same guy, although he did have long hair and some tattoos. All in all it's still a good movie, but you know, I think Once Were Warriors is still on another level.
