Good idea...poor execution
I like movies about dogs. Let me say that up front. But it felt like they got into this movie and realized there was nowhere to go.
I did not like it at all and I really wanted to.
As an adult, I'm loathe to watch it again because as you say, there just doesn't seem to be anywhere worthwhile it can go, but at the same time I remember seeing it on TV when I was small and loved it and it's stuck with me all that time.
