What is giving the key characters the premonitions?

Is it... God? Who (on the side of Life) would do that to spite Death?

Why are you here if you haven't seen the movie yet?

There is no reason given. Some people just get them. Maybe it is from God, I don't know.

Basically, the premise is a rip-off of The Twilight Zone, which ripped off the British film, Dead of Night. All of them feature stories of people having premonitions of death, avoiding the death, and perhaps dying later or witnessing other people die (the Twilight Zone episode actually involved a plane exploding in mid-air).

I think they just have a "sixth sense" or there's some flaw in the design of the universe that allows these people to see Death's plan.
