Does the character appeal to you?

I'm doing a critical research project on women and film focusing on how characters appeal to women.
Does the character of Erin Brockovich appeal to you and why?
(by this I mean do you actually like the character?)
Thankyou :)

Well, yes and no.

She wasn't exactly a stereotypical woman but she wasn't exactly classy either.

She appeals to me in the sense of working hard and breaking the typical lawyer stereotype.

Yes she appeals to me because she saw something that needed to be taken care of and she knew nobody else was going to do it, so she volunteered herself and she showed far more concern for all the people whose lives were compromised in the name of money, than anybody else ever would've, and she refused to give up until she had brought the companies down to their knees. You have to admire that in a person.

Coming from a straight, teenage male, I think I'm a minority when I say that she appeals to me.

You can tell from the first five minutes that this woman has jumped through a lot of hoops in her time, from two divorces to money problems. However, not once did we see a break down or a low point for her- she was determined, she was strong. She knew herself and she knew what it would take for her to achieve what she wanted.

You can call her unclassy, you can call her rude, but you can't call her weak. I think for that reason, and that reason alone, she should be a generally liked character.

On another note, her rants were very fun to watch, and I think those are what won her over for me.

No she doesn't.

She has some good points of course - she made it through tought times all that.

But if I actually met her we wouldn't get along at all becuase she's a bully, and seems to make i through by being a bully, not caring about other people's feelings, or about necessary rules (like keeping numbers in files or checking in at the office after all those absentees).

She knew she was attractive, and she totally ripped through other people (esp women) for not paying as much attention to thier appearence as she did to hers and didn't care how many sould she squished.

So no, I don't think her character is appealing as a friend or colleague, but I guess as a business person she's some-one to be admired?
