How muuuuuuch!

just read that PG&E settled the case for $333 million, of which 133 mil went to the laywers, and the plaintiffs received on average, $300,000 each.
What I dont get, and I apologise for my ignorance here, but how the heck to the laywers recieve so much money when the plaintiffs, who even a line in the film by Ed says "$250,000" was an insult to offer one of the plaintiffs, only recieved $300,000.
Ed and Erin are portrayed as saviours, I would like to know if that money even covered the victims medical bills let alone any money left over for general compensation.

I assumed the $250,000 was going to be split between them all which would mean they would get pittance
