QUESTION ABOUT THE ENDING???

I was just wondering if anyone knows why she killed her husband right before heading to the hospital to give birth to their child? Throughout the entire movie she loved and stuck with this "cold" and "unloving" man and even bore his child, so why kill him in the end? I just don't understand why she did it. Any reasonable explanations???

The ending is deliberately ambiguous I think.
One could easily argue that both the child and the explosion/Paul's death are purely metaphorical.

It seems like every movie that this director does features a death at the end.
