strange movie

I watched this movie yesterday and bit shocking. But if they can show babies being killed in movies why cant they show these types of scenes. But that rope scene was too long. founf that this was directed by a female. That is interesting

In what ways do you find it interesting that 'Romance' was directed my a woman? Would a man ever make a film like this? For me, Breillat's films reek of a female/feminine perspective... for the male POV would not portray sex/sexuality in such a frank and honest way.

male directors portray sex in a frank and honest way all the time. that's not true at all. the dialogue of the female lead is obviously written by a female feminist that's the only unique gender difference i see in the film.

You really should go and watch "Belle de jour" to begin with.
Also I'm afraid the reason why you don't see men portray sex/sexuality as this film does has more to do with the fact that, if they did, the very least they could expect is to be branded "misogynysts", think carefully about it.

"Frank and honest" are certainly not adjectives I would use for this film, made by a (self declared, but questionable in truth) feminist that has some talent but unfortunately also has got her head stuck way too deep in "le cul".
