Episode 2 the father talks about the Sex Pistols like they're a new phenomenon, and refers to punk like it's a recent trend, but the show is set in Oct, 1980. By this time, his prediction about the ignoble deaths of the Sex Pistols are already starting to come true. Sid Vicious was dead already, and punk was already passe.

Yes and no. Parents are usually behind the times on these sorts of things. But the Sex Pistols didn't really become a thing in the United States until their 1978 U.S. tour (at the conclusion of which the band broke up because they all kinda hated each other).
