Kim Kelley chase to the car scene made me laugh my ass off

I always liked this show for being relatable at the time (being a teenager), but that scene when Kim and Lindsay rush to the car to escape her parents made me bust a gut. It was so exciting and hilarious at the same time. I was like Mary in Hocus Pocus when she turns on the TV and sees the baby ad. Anyone else?

I just wrote about this in another thread. What exactly was funny? It seemed to me that it was intended to make the viewer more empathetic to the Kim character because of her abusive home life. I thought it seemed disturbing that they would try to display this family as funny, and not creepy.

Absolutely not me. I thought it was horrifically shocking and violent. And Lindsay could have been killed. She was definitely playing with fire, being involved with Kim.

I didn't think it was funny. It was very traumatic but true to life-I had a friend with a family like this while growing up- an alcoholic Mom who yelled non-stop, the step Dad would smash up the furniture and drag the older boys out on the lawn and beat the hell out of them, then someone would call the cops, it was horrible.

Raj, there's no place for truth on the Internet.

Hot & hotter.

This episode is not funny, the car scene was not funny...it was horribly uncomfortable. I hate this episode. NBC never aired this particular ep when the show was originally on--not sure if it was because of the violence in that scene or whatever (which by today's standards probably isn't that big a deal) but once I saw it so much later I was glad they never showed it. I found it pretty shocking and out of place with the other episodes. I get why they did it but that doesn't make it pleasant.

To this day I think I've only seen it twice while I have seen the other episodes at least ten-to-twenty times each, if not more.

Is there any proof that Kim was being physcially abused or her mother was an alcoholic? Sure, her step father was a dead beat but I've known loud mothers (such as Kim's) that had no choice but to be crazy over their child because they were out of control. We're reading too much into that scene. I didnt laugh at it too much but I didnt see it as 'Oh crap, Lindsay might be in serious trouble!'.
