Weak

Weak writing, talentless actors. Who watches this? 5 year olds maybe?

reply

Troll much?

reply

Actually, no I do not. These characters are like caricatures and not in a good way. I heard about this series and saw that it had some good reviews. I checked it out and watched the entire first season on Netflix. I think that was a pretty fair trial. What a waste of time. It is obvious that the writers have never known a single teen. I am wondering if they ever were one.

reply

If you truly watched every episode, hell a hand full of episodes and that was your legitimate opinion of this series than I owe you an apology. It was my favorite series ever and I'm old...oh well, different strokes!

reply

I see now that only one season was made. I had thought there were more. So I guess I watched the entirety. I stand by my comments and totally understand the cancellation.

reply

It was the most critically acclaimed show of the 1999-2000 season, and also among the worst rated. So, you are not alone in hating it. I disagree with your assessment, but most people didn't care for it.

reply

As has been said, everyone doesn't like the same series. I am so glad that is true. Life would be boring if everyone liked the same things. One food, one genre of music, art, movie, etc...etc. No apologies needed about the troll comment. If I had been a fan, I might feel the same.

And Jersey Shore went on for years and years. Face it, the majority of people in this country don't have an ounce of sense or taste. Proof: the frontrunners in this current election are Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. Are Americans stupid much?

Why do they call 'em soap operas anyway? Those things are FILTHY!----Fred Sanford

reply

YES!

I'm getting to the end of the series.

While I don't find it stellar by any means, it does being back some memories. Some not entirely fond, some endearing.

But sadly this is what we dispose of, while keeping shows about women who fight each other for no reason.

reply

That was one of the reasons given for the show's failure to draw a big audience. It was too real. A certain segment of potential viewers chose not to relive sad, awkward, painful memories of their own teen experience.

reply

You sound just like my husband, who was a teenager during the time period this show depicted (1980). He likes it, but says there's something so unsettling to the set and the outfits he shamefully remembers that takes him too close to his own adolescence. Meanwhile I can watch it over and over, having been born after the time period. Now I have my own teen daughter who I've started her watching, with me present, to point out the angst and peer pressure and overall existential crisis that teens STILL go thru.

My dad loved That 70s Show, on the other hand. It was comedy that reminded him of his fun youth. Fresh Off the Boat is my comedy show bc i was same age as characters on that show, and I love the nostalgia.

Freaks and Geeks deserves to be the cult favorite it is now... Either by ppl like me who are old souls and wish we grew up then, or by those older who fondly remember the better points of the time period. great acting, writing, and emotion.

And I agree with those who say crap programming gets their seasons renewed. So unfair... But the Keeping up with the Kardashians crew outnumber us...

reply

That's sort of a phallacy... but I totally agree with you. Most people like boring, shallow crap. They like to see a bunch of good-looking people talking about nothing and being dicks to each other. People are morbid, and they don't want to see something that makes them think in the slightest. Most people see TV just to disconnect of their lives for a while (as if daily life was that intellectually demanding in the first place).

And that's not just in the US. I'm from Chile and I can certainly say it's the same there.

Well said =)

I appreciated and agree with the sentiments contained in your posts above. Off topic..I just saw a very entertaining, original film titled Sing Street. I believe that fans of F&G would enjoy it. You should check out the Coming Attractions on IMDB....Sing Street. At first glance it appears a little adolescent however many have compared the feeling and the message to an Irish version of a John Hughes film.

Thanks for the recommendation!! I looked it up and it sounds right up our alley! =)

reply

That was a very interesting point indeed.

I agree with the other poster - different strokes, it was my favorite show then. I remember actually being angry - angry! - when it was cancelled. I still think of it in the same vein as Firefly, where we were just given a brief glimpse of greatness.

I was in high school from 1976-80, and the show was pretty much dead on, at least for my high school in New Rochelle, NY.

Name one similar show better than it. Game Over, thanks for playing.
