Who else wanted to reach through the tv at these teachers?

There were so many moments in this show where things wern't clearly explained to teachers/parents and the kids ended up in trouble they shouldn't have etc.
I've never wanted to 'transport' into a show more

teacher gives Linsey detention for feuding with that huge kid-
"Are you fckn nuts dude? this guy was holding this girl against her will and swinging her around. F u dude"

Detention guy is like 'what are you doing , you can't do homework here you have to think about what you did'
"She saw a fcking giant assaulting a girl and tried to stop it. F u detention dude" etc. And thats just from one episode lol

This is exactly how teachers were in the Midwest in the 80's. This show was so spot on about how so many things were handled it gave me shivers. The only thing they missed out on was the clothes. Most of the kids looked like they were dressed from the preppy section of a Sears Roebuck catalog. In the Midwest in the 80s we did not dress that way.

I made another post about this before I saw yours. The teachers and some administrators were every bit as bad as the bullies themselves. It was my least favorite thing about the show.

I don't know if the teachers are realistic or not - if Midwesterners who went to high school in the 80s say they are, they must be - but the insensitive teachers and administrators underline the alienation the Fs and Gs experience. They are truly on their own.

School is not a perfect world.
Neither are families
Neither are teenage relationships (or any relationships for that matter).

Freaks, geeks, other kids, parents, teachers... all of them human, all of them fallible. All of them got some stuff wrong, and some stuff right.

I think F&G portrayed that really well.
The characters were all relatable in some way, and that's what makes it a great show.

Go on Stanley, stick one in Jane Russell & win a goldfish.

I attended high school in the '80s. Most of the teachers were total a-holes. They were constantly telling us how spoiled we were and tried to scare us with lies and threats. Almost every kid was really into rock music. It was one of the few things that somewhat united us. And almost everyone liked to party. We didn't think booze and weed were big deals. Some kids snorted coke. I was never into that and most frowned on it.

During the '00s my niece attended the same high school I did. By then they had the kids under total lock down. The administration didn't actually care about the kids. It was all about the liability. I don't know how kids are supposed to grow up with constant adult supervision. I am so glad I grew up when I did. I learned to be self reliant. It sure beat being on a cellphone with my parents all day long or having douche bag teachers constantly telling me what to do.

It wasn't just the teachers who were a-holes. The guidance counselor also had a-hole moments. The guidance counselors at my high school in the '80s were clueless. They never guided anyone.
