Novelization &/or graphic novel would be fun & I'd buy it.
I think the most realistic from that piece was actually Bill becoming a jock. Remember, he was the one who spoke up at softball for captaincy picks + the meeting on the mound fun. It was there before his mom started dating the coach yes?
In a way, I guess the series might've become too challenging to juggle everyone kinda doing their own thing. The Wonder Years for instance couldn't cope with production costs & concerns having to film more than just school & home once the kids grew up.
I'm satisfied with Feig's ideas there - though I think Nick during the 80's might've tried volunteering overseas with humanitarian causes instead of simply joining the army. Maybe his dad thinks he's headed to enlisting only his father dies before Nick finally feels free to choose his own course for himself.
