Am I the only one that feels Passions was always snubbed at the Daytime Emmys? It seriously baffles me that Lindsay Hartley never received even one emmy nod when she gave some of the most powerful performances year after year as Theresa. Rarely were any actors or actresses from Passions acknowledged. Instead it was always the dumb categories it would win in like lighting and design. I think the most props Passions ever received was for best original song for both "I Ain't Sorry" and "Love is Ecstasy." Why do you think Passions was always snubbed? Take in mind that you can't merely blame it on the supernatural side since Port Charles was once nominated for best show even though it was always rated below Passions.
I've never watched Bold & Beautiful but I figure it's very unrealistic since it's supposed to take place in LA yet lacks any diversity, haha. You're right about Passions being amazing for never taking itself too seriously. I mean how many shows would have the gumption to insult NBC executives and then DirecTV executives after being cancelled? I guess the main problem with the Daytime Emmys is that they tend to be bias toward certain shows--how many times has Young & Restless won best soap? I think the fact that they continually ignored prime contenders worthy of, if not a win, a nomination made the Daytime Emmys lose their popularity. Remember when NBC, ABC and CBS would fight to air it every year? Now they're forced to air it online because no one wants it or really cares. Granted, the pickings are slimmer now with only four soaps left.
I agree Passions was fun to watch I used to watch Days of Our Lives also I remember Days of our Lives having some weird storylines like Passions. Ever since Passions left NBC and went off air I haven't watched Days or our Lives. The other soap opera are just plain and boring to me same storyline like the rest of them.
I loved Timmy and Tabitha and was sad when Timmy died. I used to watch Passions just for Timmy/Tabitha and Sheridan/Luis. I always got the feeling that Passions was a close cast b/c when Timmy won Favorite Character on the Soap Opera Digest Awards one year everybody seemed happy for him.
Lindsay was the best on THIS show, but look at what she had to work with. Look at the horrible actors and BS storylines she was surrounded by. Of course she looked good in comparison. She was nothing spectacular when put up against other soap actors.
Passions was snubbed because this show is total trash. Like complete and utter garbage. And I say this as someone who grew up on this soap is currently wasting my free time watching all the episodes on Youtube. I loved it then, and I love it now, but it's TERRIBLE. For example, I'm watching episodes from 1999 and we just got done with Ethan trying to have Theresa arrested for spilling BBQ and paint on him a few times, and now Luis's job as a police officer is in danger because Sheridan accidentally smashed a pie in his face and his superior "caught" them goofing around. Pure stupidity. But it's one shining factor is that it was always fun to watch. It's clear that the reason no one took it seriously is because they didn't even take themselves seriously.
Passions was outlandish and crazy and that was JER's plan from the beginning but I still feel it was unfairly treated when it came to being acknowledged in the soap community. Lindsay deserved to at least be nominated for a Best Leading Actress. I guess it floors me because Port Charles (a show that was lower rated than Passions) could be nominated for Best Show despite its crazy plots (vampires, wishing on a magical ring for a baby) and Passions couldn't. The Daytime Emmys have a very "Boys Club" regime. They pick favorites. I mean, take for examples, how many times Susan Lucci (who played Erica on AMC) was nominated for Best Actress before finally winning. Also, Debbi Morgan (who played Angie on AMC) was given several snubs when nominated. She'd give killer performances and get beaten out by an actress nowhere near as talented. I think that Passions deserves the credit it never received from the soap community. I mean, some of the most unique and entertaining storylines were told on this show. Passions was original and walked to the beat of its own drum.
Yeah, but they had some great actors on that show. Forget about the story lines, look at the talent. Julian, Tabitha, Ivy, Theresa, Ethan, first Fox, Whitney, both Chads, Gwen, Rebecca should have been nominated for something.
Well one of the mAin reasons Lindsay Hartley was never nominated for a Emmy was because she didn't deserve it. She wasn't that great of an actress. True she was the leading on the show but never did anything that seemed worth a nomination.
On the other hand, people like Ben Masters and Tracey Ross were actually nominated for awards.
I always thought Theresa shouldn't have got so much spotlight because she was actually pretty good when the storylines didn't feature as the heroine, but JER thought she was just that good.
As for actors who won Emmy awards it seem like for the hell of it. People like Anthony Geary he has won tons of awards and for what? He appears like a old drunk on General Hospital. That's how he appears on the show.
I liked Theresa, but I got tired of her and Ethan and that's one of the reasons why I stopped watching Passions. JER had some type of obsession w/making both Gwen and Theresa run after Ethan. He was a cute guy, but goodness not worth all of the fighting. I was hoping that they would have moved Gwen on to the original Hank b/c I thought that they had chemistry.
I never cared for the Ethan and Theresa storylines and it only got worst by 2006 until the end. I wish that they would have paired Theresa off with someone else. Jared was all right but they weren't the best match. The first guy to play Ethan was attractive but not so great of an actor. I would have liked Gwen if she had more of a personality. The only thing she did was scheme with Rebecca and stay under Ethan. She didn't even work! Passions would have been a much better soap if JER gave some of his characters a brain and personality.
You can say what you want to say about Port Charles which had rating a bit lower than Passions but they actually gave their characters more of a personality and storylines moved at a faster pace. I became sick of the show by 2006. I started watching the show off and on back around 2000, but really got into it in 2003. By 2006 or '07 with the whole Rome storyline I just got tired of the show and only watched it for Julian And Eve.
I'm not sure how much of the show you watched, but Lindsay MORE than deserved nominations, there were a number of storylines and scenes where she showed tremendous acting range and very powerful acting. Like her character or not, she was easily the most convincing actor on the show.

If she really was that convincing, which I didn't see the least bit, she would have been nominated for a Daytime Emmy. She was only nominated for a Soap Opera Digest Award in 2000 and that's it. If you actually read my last post I said I watched the show off and on in the beginning but got into it regualry in 2003 and watched it all the way until NBC canceled the show.
Agreed. I really feel the Daytime Emmys lost their credibility because they hardly ever nominated deserving actors/actresses. As I stated before it's a very "boys club" mentality. Plus, let's be honest, many of the people involved with the emmys are snobbish and biased. Most of them refused to accept Passions as a soap opera since it wasn't the typical, conventional soap. If things were truly equal many cast members of Passions would've won awards.
If you know soaps storylines from the past I'm talking about the 1970's, 80's and even into the 90's you could honestly watch the Emmy award shows and say "Yes they deserve the award." Over the last several years the award shows have been a huge, "What's the point?" Seems like only Y&R and GH racks up most of the awards. I know there are only 4 American soaps on the air now, but still if B&B wins or DOOL maybe it won't feel as biased.
The only soap in over the last 40 years of the awards show to have some wacky storylines and still win awards is "Santa Barbara" which also aired on NBC.
But less face it you know that a lot of the acting on Passions was rather weak. Now, I'm a fan of the show but I found myself laughing at a number of actors who were trying to be serious but their acting was just, "Are you serious?"
Passions reminded me of how B&B used to be. 1/2 of the people could blow you out of the water with their acting and the other 1/2 you were saying "You got hired for your looks right?"
I'm a huge Shuis fan, but when Passions first started I thought both were bad actors until they got around each other and their acting was good. MW & GG had mad chemistry! I also thought that Theresa and 1st Miguel were bad, but they came a long way. As for those that weren't nominated. There are a lot of people that have never been nominated that should have been.
Minus watching B&B with my grandmother back in the 90's or as I call it, (the show's heydays) I really never got into B&B, but I always thought back then the acting was pretty good. I felt Y&R had better actors and storylines but far different than Passions.
In the beginning I thought almost every character gave a kind of weak performance. Well not so much everyone. People like Theresa, Whitney, Ethan, Miguel and a few others always walked around like Stepford Children or something always smiling as if the world was so great. It was so laughable. The only actors I actually took serious back then and for a large part of the series was Julian, Eve, Tabitha (As silly as she could be) Liz (On a few occasions) Pilar and possibility a few more. Luis was a hit or miss to me because he would a lot of times repeat his lines over and over and over again. Very annoying, but a lot of the actors did that. It was worst I think for Luis when he was trying to expose the Crane secrets.
I agree with you Aba. I never got into Young & Restless my older cousin always watched that show back in the 90s and I think she still watch it, but I do agree the actors/actress on that show are very great.
Passions is a whole different story I don't know where they got these actors/actress I will say Theresa was alright here and there with her acting she was great at playing devious. I hated when she would be in lala land dreaming about Ethan and always smiling as well, Whitney was a bore (I've see Brooke Kerr in other sitcoms before and her acting was bland also), I liked Charity when she was playing evil Charity she was great at playing evil. Pilar is a pretty good actress, Eve was great, Liz was great too, and Julian got better with time.
