Journalism?
What Will did was not journalism, it was an invasion. His motivation was not even righteous, he was driven by petty insecurity about losing his friend. I am not murderous, nor a hooligan, but I would have at least beaten him to a pulp for his crime. He would have been expelled by the university and charged with a felony for breaking the Porsche window, at the least; he exercised terrible judgement. Free Masons pledge to die by the hands of their own brothers for betraying secrets. He would have been beaten within inches of his life by any fraternity on the planet, much less a prestigious secret society. Again, these guys make oaths to guard their secrets to the death. In the world, he might have been disappeared altogether if he had done the same thing to an NSA or CIA facility, so he had it coming to some extent. I cannot even empathize. Dig a deep enough hole and it could be your own grave.
I am about a thir of the way through this movie as I write this but I don't see how Luke can side with Will, considering the circumstances.
the cause of my ambivalence is the effect of your own--me
