I never understand that. A plant first? I'd be screwed. I know everyone's different, but I have two dogs, one I've had for over a decade, so I'm managing them fine. And I have one plant that's supposedly very easy to care for and I do my best with it but I'm not even entirely sure if it's alive.

I used to be a therapist in a rehab program and it was part of the program to watch this. I haven't seen it in years, but it became torture. This and couple other films.
Anyway, AA was created by a super narcissist and he knew it. It's why it's "anonymous" because he knew people like him would try to take it over if they could put their name on it.
Most addicts are very self-indulgent and don't care who they hurt. So, in order to address these personality problems learning to care for something alive is a good first step. They can move to plants, to animals, to people.
