vicodin vs micodol

Does anyone know why when the movie is on tv they change the drug she takes from vicodin to micodol?

reply

so its not about a worse drug so kids can see it

aaawwww...i love vicodin.....

I wondered that too. I wondered if micodol was a drug, really? Typed it in to the search engine. All that came up was film. Guess micodol must have something to do with film

I guess I'd never noticed them dubbing over a drug reference like it was a swear word. I think I've heard them say cocaine and percocet. I don't know about heroin.

That was odd. to get kids not to see it? REALLY?

i think micodol is a substance used for developing film, and you might get high off of it. i know that when i developed film for photography i constantly got light headed. but for this movie i'm pretty sure they did dubb it over vicodin.

hehe me too!!

Probably so that they (the network) wouldn't give kids the idea to go searching for Vicodin in their parents' medicine cabinet.

It probably has more to do with the fact that Vicodin is a brand name (i.e. trademarked). They'd have to get permission to use the name and pay for it every time the movie is shown. It's just easier to change to name to the made-up "micodol" which sounds like a vicodin-type drug.

THERE YA GO! That reason sounds realistic. Hadn't even thought of that. Vicodin in the name brand drug. Vicodin's not the generic drug name.

Couldn't imagine them taking out/dubbing over the name just b/c it was bad for kids to hear. I mean, how about all the other stuff that's discussed on TV that kids are likely to hear.

It still seems like they do mention name brands of things though. Maybe I'll start listening for that. Still, that sounds like the most realistic answer considering it's a name brand narcotic.

I agree - the "vicodin" as a brand name makes much more sense than my idea about kids... Besides, most kids *already know* that vicodin is a party drug already, lol. The generic drug name is "hydrocodone with APAP", which just wouldn't work on screen, so "Micodol" makes sense.

Wonderful film. Showed her day to day struggle, before durning, and after rehab. I'm glad she dumped bf. Very good humor as well
