Gwen's change of heart about Jasper at the end

Did anyone notice that at the end of the movie, when Gwen regained her sobriety...that she found Jasper to be completely irritating?

This is probably due to the fact that when her and Jasper were a couple, she was drunk 27/7, she was probably crocked when she met him, and it was actually the alcohol that made him seem tolerable to her.....I believe they refer to this as beer goggles. In the end, when they are sitting in the restaurant, and Jasper is rambling on about nonsense, she looks him straight in the eye, and says....."Do you ever stop talking?" I found this line hilarious. This is a good example of how alcohol seriously clouds our judgement and would make the most arrogant jackass on the planet seem attractive.

Also. He wasn't willing to help.
Yes the addict makes the most changes, but those around them need to try to be kind

I agree on the Designated Driver part. I also have chosen to abstain during a party, outing, whatever because I had to drive, had to be up early, or just wasn't in the mood to tie one on. So dealing with a drunk...or trying to carry on a conversation with one while sober, can be next to impossible. Especially when you are trying to talk them out of a 2 am Taco Bell run!!!

It's a complete change of lifestyle as well as change in the way she thinks. He needed to be just as commited to her new as she was. The scene at the bar at the end shows he doesn't grasp how different her new sober life would be.

In the movie "Auto Focus" based on the life of Bob Crane. Bob Crane's manger tells him some like this

"An alcolholic can't keep hanging around his old drinking buddies if he wants to change. It just doesn't happen that way".

Which is true. She would have just gone back to her old habits.

Well, d'uh *yeah* that is just about the main point of this film, y'all. That, and that he just doesn't get it.

We also notice that her change of heart doesn't just take place at the end. She slowly comes to realise during treatment that her lifestyle is going to have to change... a lot. This doesn't stop her resenting that fact - but neither does her resentment stop her realising she has to be committed to the change.

And part of that change, she also realises, involves either changing Jass or leaving him.

I'm not sure I agree entirely with the OP. Yes, she came to find Jasper intolerable, but this is due more to the fact that he represented her old life and ways. She went through the program and detoxed herself... coming out, she regained her sobriety and she wanted a life.

While she was in rehab, Jasper continued to carry on with his partying ways. He even says to her that he doesnt think she should be there. Jasper has no comprehension of what she's going through and no respect for it.

When Gwen finishes her '28 days', she has outgrown him.
