Just for once can moviemakers show an Englishman who is not shallow,

supercilious and has no redeeming features.

Or is this asking them not be cliche-riddled hacks and therefore out of the question?

It does get a bit tiring seeing the Englishman as the one everyone loves to hate, while the American/Irishman/Scotsman is a really stand-up guy with a heart of gold.

Just a thought.

Absolutely agree and those that don't have all the qualities you list generally turn out to be crooks!!

"What're you rebelling against, Johnny?"

"What have you got?"

Just watch any movie with Colin Firth, or even Hugh Grant. They almost always play guys with hearts of gold. Except in the Bridget Jones movies, where Hugh plays a bit of a sh!t - but Colin is the nice guy in those.
