She's used to lots of noise and she can't stand the stillness and quiet of her room. The shower/water noise helps.
shareyeah, when you're jonesing your skin is crawling, your time sense is awry, you want to sleep to escape, but you hate to sleep because of the nightmares, and the withdrawal pangs won't let you sleep, anyway. concentration is impossible- the whole world is jangly and jagged.
a droning sound to fixate on helps to distract, and offers a small level of consistencey in a world of chaos. she used water in the movie- i always liked an electric fan, myself. (but not an oscillating fan, for pete's sake!!!)
