My one problem...
Whatever happened to Eddie and Gwen?!
I love Edward Cullen!
That was my one problem, too! They should've had a romance! The seeing whatsisname at the store should have been just a scene, and then, she goes back to rehab and develops a relationship (and nix the Jasper scene for later). Then, she goes out of rehab, THEN says bye bye to Jasper, and then he gets out of rehab...
okay, okay, so I complicated it way too much. But my point is, I agree: Whatever happened to Eddie + Gwen?!
She bought a plant instead... she's got to keep the plant alive for a year, a pet alive for another year after that before she has a relationship with a man. :-) Well, that's the suggestion of her councilor at least... and although I don't think a character such as Gwen's would go two years without a romantic relationship I do think that the movie needed to end by showing the audience that Gwen is serious about her recovery. If the movie ended with the Eddie and Gwen together as a couple it would be just too hypocritical... Recovery is all about baby steps :-)
shareBut I think they would have worked well snyway because at least he was'nt a complete prat like Jasper.

After just watching the movie right now.. I completely agree.
Man, the movie wasn't half bad, but that kind of ruined it for me.
She didn't even go back to be all 'I'll be your friend for now.. but first we have to both recover.'
It was just.. gah.
So unfinished.
In recovery, you're not supposed to start relationships in the beginning. If they had gotten together, they probably would have both relapsed. It's one of the number one relapse triggers. I think the film was being true to the process of recovery.
"I never drink...wine."
Thank you?! I don't know how cute we could have labeled it had she ended up back in rehab?Nor the two of tethem relapsing within three months (which is the time limit you get as an inside rehab relationship beginner).
shareOh this is tragic, this is exactly why so many films have to have a useless romantic storyline.
If you love Satan and are 100% proud of it copy this and make your signature!
I actually liked that the film they didn’t explore a romance between the two. They were two addicts who got on as buddies and happened to have a moment of weakness. Even after passing the “plants” and “pets” tests, I don’t think there would’ve been much for them in the way of a romantic relationship.
shareI thought it showed that they had the potential for a future relationship, the way he made sure he wanted to say good-bye and apologize and wanting her to know he could be a good friend and her boyfriend Jasper was a bad influence in her life.
He still had his time to serve so they couldn't start anything active right away, but it seemed to leave the door open for the future
and running into Gerhardt in the plant store -- seemed like a tidy way to end the movie -- she could continue a relationship with a friend she'd made in rehab but it would only be platonic
