If the players were on strike, why did Jimmy McGinty need to be called?

What happened to the head coach? Did he go on strike too?

Been a while since I've seen this, but it's shit like this that keeps me up at night

I've never understood this part either. An assumption can be made that when the strike hit, they fired the current coach... but of course, this isn't clear at all.
