Enjoyable movie, flaws and all

I liked this movie; can't help it. It's silly, has no conception of how football is really played, but I liked it. I like the idea of bringing in specialist misfits as key players, like a soccer player as a place kicker or a sumo wrestler as a lineman.

The biggest gripe I have with the film is the logic behind the O'Neil's decision to bring back Martel. It seemed pretty clear that Martel sucked. So why take him back? Why think he can beat Dallas with a team of replacements? The fans clearly loved Falco and the replacements; why not keep them on, and bench Martel?

Here's to the health of Cardinal Puff.

It just proved that the owner hadn't changed, at least in McGinty's eyes. Plus he did say that he couldn't afford to put Martel on the bench with the money he made him swallow.

I agree with you about the movie though. It's one of my all-time favorites.

The grave is no bar to my call.

So why take him back?
I think the main reason was that he was their franchise player, so the owner thought he would only enhance the team at the expense of Falco. But he didn't realise that the team was playing for Falco and broke down when he wasn't there.

What surprised me is that Falco was able to come on in the second half when he clearly wasn't picked for that game.

Is that a regular feature of NFL?

And why wasn't Falco the backup and dressed sitting on the bench?

Lots of flaws but it's a stupid football I can turn on anytime. In fact I'm watching it on Netflix right now haha
