Different tone to the first movie

Del Toro totally fucked up the tone of this movie, it felt nothing like the first one. And the make up on the characters looked so obviously fake, like a made for TV movie.

It still seemed like a dark action movie imo.

I agree. The first movie felt like an actual film that's shown in cinemas. This felt more like an HBO show...or something on Cinemax.

The first film is certainly a better all-around movie. When you break down Blade II's plot, you quickly learn that there really isn't that much to it. The first movie had a far more robust story.

In regard to tone, Blade II is darker and just overall less fun. I remember seeing it when it was first released to theaters and being disappointed, and I just rewatched the movie the first time in probably 20 years and it's still disappointing.

Watch it some more, it grows on you. I think it's a kick ass sequel and the last good Blade film.

reply

I can certainly see the argument that it's the last good Blade film. There are only three and Trinity is not good.
