Where does Blade II stand......

amongst many other superhero flicks?

Personally, I thought Blade II was the best of the trilogy, edging out the original by a hair. I'd say its one of the better superhero flicks that predates Spider-Man. Probably one of my all time top 15 comic book flicks if not top 10.

Your thoughts?

Blade II is definitely one of the best comic book based films ever. In some respects its even better than the first one. The original Blade film only really gets props for its groundbreaking visual style that got cribbed by most sci-fi action flicks (*cough!THEMATRIX!*cough!) for the next decade and it revitalized the comic book movie genre.

God bless your soul for shouting out the Matrix cribbing of Blade. I'm not mad at the Matrix (smart play) but people seem to overlook this. Interesting how the Matrix is dated and passe and Blade is still relevant and in the conversation.

I disagree. The Matrix (1999), like Blade (1998) is still great. They both deserve a place among the twenty or so best comic action style movies.

The Matrix (1999) only suffers a little in memory because the Matrix series started falling apart in the second movie (though it wasn't clear until the third movie that it was not possible any more to make that story add up well), while the Blade series didn't really fall apart until the third movie.

Tru dat. Matrix got hurt by over saturtion (lord those Matrix spoofs did some damage) and yes the HORRIBLE third film. Blade Trilogy was a debacle. Blade was in it for like 1o minutes. WTF? It wasn't a Blade movie and truly hurt to watch.
That being said matrix really does seem more dated when I watch it. The phoney looking Pseudo-honk ong wire work, Keanu's laughable (yet oddly convincing0 fight scenes and of course the noe passe bullet time makes repeatred viewings fare for only die hards. Blade 1 & 2 have a authenticity and aesthetic so unique and non-derivative that they really come off as fresh every trip (at least for me). Wesley's physical performance is well...superhuman and mind boggling. He is BLADE. Del Torro and Norrington are both auteurs and artists in their own right. We may not see Blade calir films for a LONG time.

In My opinion, Blade II IS the best comic book movie ever made. It has everything, Great Villain, Complex story, over the Top action (like all comic books have)and a visual style of its own.

The best superhero/comic book movie evere made.!

God bless you my brother. I will see you in the kingdom of heaven.

Agree with everything else except:

Complex story? Seriously? The X-Men films had more complex plots, and they weren't exactly renowned for original narrative-structure! I like the Blade series, I don't mind the third film sharing screen time with Hannibal King and Lady Whistler coz, well, the third film was ultimately about the NIGHTSTALKERS. You have it right there in the title - it's a trinity, and while there are more ways to interpret the title, you have to agree that Blade, Whistler and King make up one trinity in the film. The only thing that put me off for the third film was Dracula, but whatever, dude was in the comics so no big deal. I'm curious which comics influenced Blade II though, any ideas?

Blade II is one of my top 3 comic book movies. My only gripe was too much CGI in the fights.

It had a little bit of everything:

Great action, new weapons, the movies settings
The anticipation of Blade/Bloodpack showdown
Some drama without getting too corny
Twists and confusing the audience as to whom the villains were
Subplots
Leaving the audience wanting to see more of the Bloodpack (mainly Snowman)
A good ending
Whistler
Good one liners
Entertaining villains (Reinhardt, Chupa)
How the final fight ends

Reboot, restart or re-imagining is another word for remake

I think it's the best Marvel comic book movie to date. It's the best of the trilogy, edging out the original and blowing away the horrible third installment. I honestly can't think of a better movie featuring a Marvel character.
