If Marvel gets this series back on track.....

......it could be their answer to DC's Batman films. DC is obviously going to reboot the Batman series in a couple of years, so if Marvel is smart, they'll reboot this series either before then or just in time. I'd love to see two dark comic book series out at the same time. Blade will obviously have a tougher time at the box-office because of the R rating, but that doesn't matter. I just want the quality to be great enough to give DC a run for their money in that regard. The creators should look at the anime for motivation.

Before it makes dollars, it must make sense.

Wow, I didn't know that. I also think he could do a good job. I've liked him in nearly everything I've seen him in so far (The Wire, Thor, Prometheus, etc), so we'll see how he does if he gets the role. It'll all boil down to how good the script is, because that can make or break a film.

Idris Elba? Haha.
Sad thing is even Wesley Snipes probably can't play Blade anymore but Blade isn't hiding behind a mask like Batman which is why it's so easy to replace Bruce Wayne/batman.
Following in the footsteps of Wesley Snipes who absolutely nailed Blade is going to be one heck of a tough job. The new actor needs to have some sort of martial arts training, charisma, acts like a believable bad ass, has presence and perhaps he can grow on us.
Perhaps a young Blade wouldn't be a bad idea, Blade Begins? Obviously not the title of the movie but you get my point.
And no one mentions Whistler, who can replace the legend Kristofferson? Though that not as tough a job, just hope they keep the banter between him and blade.

I'd much prefer to see some kind of prequel rather than just rebooting the series from Blade 1. The best compromise would be to reboot from Blade's origins. Despite Snipes' transgressions, It will be very hard to erase the original Blade movies from the public's mind (except for the awful Blade:Trinity). Those movies are superior to so many of the other Marvel movies that have come out on so many levels.

Unless they go with a prequel, Snipes will be a very hard act to follow. The only other person who could physically play Blade convincingly at this time would be Michael Jai White but now he's getting up there in age which is why it would be better to go with a prequel and have a better selection of younger actors with a longevity of physicality. Plus they wouldn't have to be at as high a level of fight prowess as Snipes or WHite because Blade would still be at a young age in his street fighting career and still learning.

I like your guys ideas about a prequel to blade. I would be interested in something of that nature.

However, I just can never imagine anyone else suiting up to play the "adult" Daywalker besides Snipes. He was born to play that role and no one could ever come close to emulating his performance. Sometimes a role shouldn't be reprised because of that reason. I, for one, wouldn't be able to sit through any other actors take on Blade. Every thought in my head when he is on screen would be, "Some guy stole Blade's clothes." Too bad Snipes isn't a hybrid vampire in reality. Oh, well I wouldn't mind seeing a Blade: The latter Years w/ Snipes vs Blade: The Imposter w/out him.

That's why I think they should either do a prequel or go with a complete reboot and start with Blade's beginnings as a youth before he met Whistler. I suspect they would go with the latter since they're rebooting everything these days and Blade is a guaranteed box office draw.

Agreed.

Honestly, I can still see Snipes playing Blade. Have you seen Gallowwalkers (2012)? The way Snipes played the lead, he was basically Blade in a cowboy outfit. lol

As for Elba, you are right. I can't really picture him as Blade. However, if the proposed reboot/prequel is an origin story, I CAN certainly see him playing Jamal Afari, Blade's mentor in the comics.

**edit**You know, after reading up on Blade's comic origins(he was born in London), they could always get Chiwetel Ejiofor to play Blade. He's obviously willing to do martial art characters as he learned Brazilian jujitsu for "Redbelt" AND he played the Operative in "Serenity". The only problem is...can he pull off a streetwise "punk" character like Blade would be in an origin movie? He usually plays very eloquent and/or scholarly characters.

It'll be like Luke Duke and the other guy.
Really?
Yeah.
NO!

Joey Ansah in my opinion would be the perfect Blade. He was Desh in Bourne Ultimatum. He has the look, the martial arts background as well as some acting experience. If Wesley doesn't come back then this guy should take over.
